Why SnagWord

Most word-finder sites bolt one generic search box onto whatever game you throw at it, which quietly gets the scoring wrong the moment you switch from Scrabble® to Words With Friends® — the two games publish genuinely different tile-value tables, not just a different coat of paint. SnagWord builds a dedicated solver for each game's actual rules instead: its own tile values, its own bonus math, its own strategy notes, so the word ranked first is actually the best play for the game you're playing, not an approximation borrowed from a different one.

Every solver runs entirely client-side, in your browser. There's no server round trip, no account, and no logging of your rack or your guesses — type your letters and the answer appears in milliseconds, the same whether you're on a fast desktop connection or spotty mobile data mid-commute.

The dictionary underneath every tool is ENABLE, a public-domain word list of roughly 172,823 entries — not a proprietary or paywalled dataset, and documented in full (including exactly where it differs from official tournament dictionaries) on the methodology page. Layered on top of it, 20,000 words carry a real, sourced definition from Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913) — genuine 19th-century lexicographic work, not an AI-paraphrased summary — alongside each word's actual Scrabble® and Words With Friends® point values side by side.

Beyond the six solvers, SnagWord is one of the deepest browsable word-list references available: every word length from 2 to 15 letters, every letter of the alphabet as both a starting and ending filter, the classic reference sets serious players look up by name (two-letter words, QU words, Q-without-U words, zero-vowel words), and a growing set of strategy guides covering everything from Wordle® opening theory to the real math behind triple word scores.
